Mariah A-K Bender

Mariah A-K Bender, is a second year doctoral student in the History Department. Their research explores how African peoples negotiated freedom through religious, political, and social terrains during and in the afterlives of slavery in Latin America and the Caribbean during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. When not deep in archival research, they are an olympic weightlifter and dabble in creative writing and podcasting.
