- The name of this organization shall be: "Black Graduate Student Association Constitution"
- The purpose of the organization is as follows:
- To provide a professional and supportive social network for Black graduate students to ensure the retention, continued academic excellence, and psychological support of said students at Rice University
- To provide a safe environment for Black graduate students to voice their concerns
- To strengthen liaisons with administrators, faculty, and other student organizations and the community at large
- To assist Rice University in recruiting qualified Black students from racial groups that are underrepresented in academia
- To spread awareness of local and national events impacting Black people to the larger Rice University community
- A member of this organization shall be any person who supports the goals of the organization and is committed to enforcing the said goals
- The Executive Committee will consist of the following:
- President, who shall oversee all meetings and activities, and who shall be responsible for making sure that the organization is abiding by the rules set forth by the Graduate Student Association of Rice University. They shall also be in charge of facilitating the professional, informative, and social network of graduate students in the organization
- Vice President who works in conjunction with the President and aids in whatever capacity in which the President needs
- Treasurer who shall be in charge of maintaining and distributing the organization's funds in an orderly and responsible fashion
- Secretary, who shall be in charge of all correspondence, inside the organization, as well as outside of the organization
- All executive officers will be elected annually during the Spring semester. Each officer must accrue at least 51% of the vote from the number of voting members present at the elections.
- All money spent shall be agreed on by the Treasurer and the President and can be requested by any member of the Executive Board.
- The constitution can be amended via a vote by the executive board/Steering Committee at any Executive Board meeting.
